Boscov’s is an American department store founded in 1911 by Solomon Boscov, having the first store in Reading, Pennsylvania. Boscov’s, along with Belk and Dillard’s, is one of the last family-owned department store chains in the United States, and has yearly revenue of over $1 billion.
Boscov’s formally filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2008, closing ten underperforming stores: five in Pennsylvania, three in Maryland, and one each in New Jersey and Virginia. In addition, Boscov’s canceled plans to open a store at the Willow Grove Park Mall.

After only one year, Boscov’s successfully exited chapter 11 bankruptcy and in 2011 they reopened a location closed in 2008, at the Monmouth Mall in Eatontown, New Jersey. This marks the first expansion of the company since its contraction in 2008.
Boscov’s has today 41 stores which are spread throughout the Mid-Atlantic states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, and Delaware which includes three downtown department stores in Binghamton, NY, and Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
